  • Hotels provide sleeping accommodations on a room/suite basis and feature a front desk for customer service. Each guest room must have a private bath and/or shower. Many hotels have additional facilities like a pool, exercise room or sauna. Hotels are usually located near other facilities.


  • Kailua-Kona Bed & Breakfasts (9)
  • Bed and Breakfasts provide short-term lodging in private homes or small buildings converted for this purpose. Usually occupied by the owner or operator, Bed and Breakfasts contain no more than 20 rooms. A continental or full-breakfast must be offered and included in the room rate.


  • Kailua-Kona Resorts (6)
  • A resort is usually a hotel with added attractions on the premises, making it a self-contained vacation experience. Resorts cater mainly to vacationers or tourists (as opposed to overnight travellers). The site of a resort is usually large, and there may be a beach, lake, ocean, as well as other attractions and activities such as a golf course, tennis courts, etc. Structured activities are usually offered, with or without supervision.
